In the conviction that in this age of increasing digitalization we are losing the art of the personal touch, fashion designer Hanae Mori has organized an exhibition of outstanding haute couture creations depicting the beauty of hand craftsmanship. The exhibition will be held at the New National Theater in Hatsudai, Tokyo, from March 15th to April 11th.
Mme Mori introduced haute couture in Japan and then pursued a 50-year career of leading the Japanese fashion world to international recognition. Her dedication to this art relies on delicate hand crafted apparel and won her admission as the only Asian designer to the “Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. ”
Now to propagate the art of hand made work Mme Mori established the Hanae Mori Foundation, which recognizes outstanding new young creators with a monthly exhibtion of their work at her foundation’s gallery on the ground floor of the Hanae Mori Building on Omote Sando.
Her exhibit features a three part program that opens with a robbot wearing “KIKU” dress followed by five scenes: Dress Black, Light and Shadow, Butterfly and flower, East meets West and the Technique of Haute Couture. The exhibit ends with three spectacular stage costumes from “Cendrillon” (Paris Opera Ballet), “Elektra” (Salzburger Festspiele-Opera) and “Takayama Ukon”(Noh Play).
